Program Components

The program has three components:

  • At Home
In the months leading up to attending the IBSC Student Forum in Baltimore, each boy will identify and engage in a service learning project in his local community in partnership with a local agency. The project should involve face-to-face contact, requiring at least four to six hours of commitment each month.
  • Online
Starting in March 2017, boys will engage in a monthly online curriculum of readings, videos, and audio materials that explore the question of how myriad groups with differing views can come together to reach a solution. The directors of the IBSC Student Forum and their team designed the curriculum specifically for the forum. Boys must create and post responses through a variety of online media. Each monthly exercise will take about one hour to complete. In local service and as a member of this online community, the boys will consider the needs of their local communities, research and strategize how to raise funds, increase awareness, and change perspectives about the issues they are studying.
  • In Baltimore
The boys will convene in Baltimore 23-28 June, to participate in a program of activities focusing on the theme Beyond Discovery: Investigation and Progress. The forum will involve workshops, day trips, keynote speakers, and the collaborative development of an initiative/program to take back to their schools and communities associated with their learning at the IBSC Student Forum.
