Tuesday 10 July: Melbourne Tour
10:00am – 2:00pm (approximate)

Today will be a leisurely start before heading to Federation Square to meet our guides for the Hidden Melbourne walking tour. Together with a guide, small groups will make their way up secret laneways and down small alleys discovering art galleries, hidden specialist shops, an artist’s studio, street art and glimpses into the history and architecture of Melbourne. The tour includes a sit down morning tea break on route and finishes with a substantial sit down lunch including a glass of wine at a contemporary city restaurant. This tour has been tailor made to reflect the conference theme: Unearthing Creativity.

The rest of this afternoon will be at leisure. As we are in the centre of the city, options abound. Federation Square has an excellent Tourist Information Centre for ideas within Melbourne and the surrounding areas. Art Galleries, Museums, Queen Victoria Market, South Bank, Royal Botanical Gardens, Shrine of Remembrance, Concert Hall and Arts Precinct etc are all nearby options.

Melbourne Cricket Ground

Tuesday 10 July: Conference Dinner

You and your partner will be transferred to the famous Members’ Dining Room at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) for a sumptuous dinner in this grand setting. Enjoy a bird’s eye view of the stadium that hosted the 1956 Olympics, 2006 Commonwealth Games, countless international cricket games and of course the home of Australian Rules Football. This will be a night filled with music, superb food and wine and international collegiality - truly a night to remember.

Tuesday 10 July: Conference Dinner Speaker: Andrew Paul Sheahan

Paul SheahanPaul Sheahan is President of the Melbourne Cricket Club (MCC) and, as a Test cricketer who played 31 Tests and three One Day Internationals, has a long and intimate relationship with the conference dinner venue, The Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG). Indeed, the record shows his highest Test score of 127 was achieved against Pakistan at the MCG in 1973. Paul made his first-class debut aged 19 and surprised the cricketing world with his ‘early’ retirement, aged 27, to turn his attention to his teaching career.

Educated at The Geelong College and the University of Melbourne, Paul is a mathematician who was a Housemaster at Geelong Grammar, Second Master at St Peter’s College, Adelaide, Principal of The Geelong College and Headmaster of Melbourne Grammar School until his retirement in 2009.

Paul’s public life has involved leadership in educational and charitable service as a director, and now trustee, of the Sir Robert Menzies Foundation, director of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, member of the Principals’ groups associated with the Victorian Board of Studies and Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority, Head of AHISA (Victoria), board member of the Alfred Hospital Foundation, Patron of ‘Anglicare’ and as an Australia Day Ambassador. He is a Member of the Australian College of Education, Fellow of the Australian Institute of Management and a Life Governor of the Australian Drug Foundation.

A comment from Paul upon his retirement is relevant to our conference theme: ‘I have found almost one fail safe mechanism for a teenager to chart those troubled waters relatively unscathed and that is to develop a passion about something ... The world loves experts, people who really have a passionate interest in their subject and delve into it to an extent that none else does.'

Wednesday 11 July: Yarra Valley Tour
8:30 am – 5:30pm (approximate)

Your coach will head about an hour out of Melbourne for a day of new experiences designed specifically for our Partners Programme. First stop will be Puffing Billy for a short steam train ride through the magnificent Dandenong Ranges. Onto Healesville Sanctuary where local guides will introduce you to the many unusual and beautiful Australian animals. Up close encounters abound as we wander through the sanctuary where kangaroos graze, koalas doze and wombats waddle. Next stop, a tour of one of Australia’s most famous sparkling wine makers, Domaine Chandon, will entice the taste buds as we sip on their latest vintage and sample a small local savoury plate. A short drive away will be our lunch destination, Fergusson’s Winery, where we will be treated to a good old fashioned Aussie BBQ in a rustic setting. After whiling away the afternoon in this beautiful environment, we will return to the hotels late in the afternoon.

This evening will be at leisure with once again many dinner choices at nearby restaurants.
