Colleagues, Whether reaching for the southern sunblock or topping up the northern antifreeze, I send warm welcome to the December edition of the Compass and thank you for all you continue to contribute to the good health of your IBSC. As we know, providing best environment for teachers to discuss their craft and share good practice significantly improves boys' outcomes. This is the essence of the research, programing, and engagement that sits at the very heart of IBSC. I found myself in such environment when visiting the East Coast of the United States and receiving strong endorsement for the primacy of a school's values in best equipping boys for the challenges and opportunities of the times. In similar vein, a recent dinner at Harrow School (United Kingdom), hosted jointly by Harrow and Aylesbury Grammar School (United Kingdom), highlighted the power of IBSC Action Research in seeding school programs tailored to bring out the best of each boy. Recent articles have brought the challenges facing boys to broader public attention and shone light on the choice boys' schools provide for families seeking a path honed intentionally for the best development of their sons and the communities they will serve. The final quarter of the year has seen the IBSC office busy with programming and communication development, including the completion of the IBSC engagement video, redesign of our professional development webpage, placement of themed stories from member schools on the homepage carousel, and launch of the IBSC Living History Podcast. Encouraging early registration for the 2023 IBSC Annual Conference at Westlake Boys High School in Auckland, New Zealand, I wish you well mining all herein and for the celebrations of the festive season, Tom |

In and out of class, these schools can take time to provide experiences that build the relationships, respect, and trust that help boys thrive." |
| | The Crisis of Men and Boys David Brooks The New York Times "Richard V. Reeves's new book, 'Of Boys and Men,' is a landmark, one of the most important books of the year, not only because it is a comprehensive look at the male crisis, but also because it searches for the roots of that crisis and offers solutions." |
