Sustainability

Sustainability and environmental stewardship are critical components of Belmont Hill’s mission to develop men of good character as they empower our boys to understand global interconnections and encourage them to look beyond themselves in caring for the needs of others, now and into the future. We are committed to high standards of sustainability and have leveraged the insights and ambitions of our boys to take the following actions:

  • Recognizing our collective responsibility to address the causes of climate change, Belmont Hill has chosen to make the 2025 IBSC Annual Conference carbon neutral by offsetting the carbon emissions generated by the event. As commercial airline emissions are a major source of atmospheric carbon, we have partnered with sustainabletravel.org should you be interested in learning how to offset your travel.
  • We made a concerted effort to ensure all materials are sustainably sourced from environmentally conscious partners. We are committed to recycling name tags and lanyards and to produce as little plastic waste as possible.
  • We have deliberately purchased recyclable or compostable products wherever possible. Clearly marked waste receptacles are located throughout our campus, so please place waste in the appropriate locations. Student volunteers from our Sustainability Club will assist at meals.
  • Our kitchen team and contributing vendors are incorporating sustainable practices throughout the conference. We have designed and executed menus that emphasize seasonality and local sourcing while also minimizing waste. Additionally Belmont Hill has partnered with local organizations for composting and distributing any usable leftover products.
  • Among the many qualities that make the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston an exceptional venue for our special reception, its commitment to sustainability and significant investments in energy-efficient lighting, insulation, water-saving devices, and other green projects reflect its proactive approach to reducing its environmental impact.
