Conference Dress Code and Lanyards

Smart-casual attire is appropriate for all conference events. We recommend comfortable shoes throughout the conference.

To ensure site security, always wear your lanyard at the school and all conference events.

The color of the lanyard helps you identify St. Stithians staff and IBSC trustees:

  • White lanyard: conference attendee
  • Navy lanyard: St. Stithians faculty/staff
  • Maroon lanyard: IBSC staff and trustees
  • Bright blue lanyard: volunteer helper

Conference hotels are conveniently located within walking distance of the Sandton Gautrain station. Sandton has a wide selection of excellent restaurants at Nelson Mandela Square, within easy walking distance of the hotels. Reservations are recommended to secure preferred seating, particularly for popular venues such as Trumps Grillhouse, well known for its South African steaks (walk-ins are accommodated subject to availability). Book via the Dineplan App or the restaurant’s website. Sandton City, immediately adjacent to Nelson Mandela Square, offers an extensive variety of retail experiences boasting local and international fare.

We don’t have lions roaming the streets, but traffic lights and stop signs have become decorative rather than mandatory in recent years. Look both ways before crossing, even if the light is green! We also recommend you keep mobile phones and other valuables out of sight when out and about, just like in any major city.

Conference Registration

Registration for attendees, workshop presenters, and spouses/partners runs 1:00 – 3:00 PM Sunday in the main tent on Dlamini Oval. After checking in, enjoy a student-led tour of campus before the opening plenary session.

Workshop Presenters

After checking in at registration, all workshop presenters can visit the Workshop Support Desk located in SC5 to review room assignments, technology resources, and logistics.

Meals and Snacks

Enjoy a continental breakfast and a diverse lunch selection during the conference. Find snacks, refreshing beverages, and coffee drinks available at convenient locations across campus during breaks. We’ve planned for a range of dietary needs, including common allergies. If you indicated special dietary requirements on your registration form and have any questions, please speak with a member of the catering team. 

IT Hub, Wi-Fi Services, and Support

Throughout the conference, St. Stithians College offers Wi-Fi across campus. Find the IT Hub located in the Boys’ College Library. Our IT colleagues can help you with all technology matters.

Quiet Space

Throughout the conference you may visit the Boys’ College staffroom for a quiet place to review a presentation, send an email, or read.

Prayer and Reflection

Should you wish for a quiet space for prayer or reflection, please visit our Chapel in the Boys’ College or the outdoor Chapel at the Girls’ College.

Sustainability

We have made a conscious effort to minimize waste and endeavor to be as carbon neutral as possible. St. Stithians has a recycling center on campus and all waste is processed through this center. Water on campus is sourced from our purification plant situated near the Corlett Gate, making all water on campus potable. We have deliberately purchased recyclable or compostable products wherever possible. Clearly marked waste receptacles are located throughout our campus, so please place waste in the appropriate locations.
