The Elephant in the Room
Please note the new dates for this conference.
Join us for the 2021 IBSC African Regional Conference at Rondebosch Boys’ High School (South Africa), aimed at boys’ school heads and educators (preparatory and high school).
Explore frequently avoided topics associated with private and former Model C schools. Address issues around racism, sexuality, masculinity, gender equality, hair, and many more. Take this opportunity to ignite honest conversations about tough topics and share ideas on how to tackle them. The idiom "the elephant in the room" describes an obvious, important topic that people avoid discussing because it makes some feel uncomfortable or is personally, socially, or politically controversial.
This conference caters to all age divisions and benefits school leaders and teachers alike.
Message from Rondebosch Boys’ Schools
Dear IBSC Regional Delegates,
We were so looking forward to seeing you and sharing a bit of the Rondebosch Schools’ experience with you in March. It seems, however, that while we were searching for the "elephant in the room," it has been there lurking in plain sight in the form of COVID-19 and has contrived to find a way to prevent us from coming together. From our quick survey, it seems clear that the preference is for a face-to-face experience and we hope that by postponing the conference to early in August, we may still have this opportunity to meet up and discuss the prickly issues that get under our skin in a boys’ school environment. Our speakers and sponsors have graciously agreed to hold out until we are able to get together and so it is certain that you can expect the full Monty (not literally!) when you arrive. Please save the date.

Ian Ryan, headmaster, Rondebosch Boys’ Preparatory School
