Boys and Reading
An IBSC On-Demand Online Class
This class is currently on hold. We will post new details when it becomes available again. Thank you.
Encouraging boys to read—particularly as they get older—remains a challenge. In spite of the popular belief that this task falls into language teachers’ domain, it is an important issue for every teacher because research shows that reading affects a boy’s success across the curriculum. All boys’ schools, librarians, and teachers should address this challenge. The purpose of libraries in boys’ schools, impact of teacher librarians, and the example set by other teachers and adult role models play a starring role.
This on-demand class launches participating teachers and schools into a space where they can develop and implement programs that encourage boys to read. Dive deep into recent research and also investigate practical ideas for engaging boys in reading, improving their reading abilities, and deepening their love for books.
Who Should Attend?
All boys' educators benefit from the insight of this class. Classroom teachers and librarians gain ideas to put into practice immediately. School leaders get a better understanding of the impact of reading on boys across the curriculum and how to integrate its value across the school.
