An IBSC Online Program with Gender Spectrum

Establish an understanding of gender diversity and discover approaches for applying this understanding to professional practice in boys’ schools. This two-part online event includes an asynchronous session followed by a live online presentation with group reflection and discussion.

The Dimensions of Gender: An Evolving Discourse
Asynchronous; engage on your own schedule.
Gain exclusive access to Gender Spectrum’s hour-long video introduction as preparation for the IBSC live session for school leaders and teachers. The Dimensions of Gender video seeks to build a foundation of understanding for future learning and includes:
- A presentation of key terminology and concepts related to gender,
- An opportunity to reflect on personal beliefs and experiences with gender,
- A tracking guide for capturing significant concepts and themes,
- An overview of gender-literacy concepts, and
- Basic concepts of gender and applies them to school settings.
Participants will receive the link to this video before the scheduled online presentation starts.

- Examine the Gender-Inclusive Schools Framework.
- Apply basic concepts of gender to teacher and institutional practices.
- Review institutional, interpersonal, and instructional resources, including handouts and other tools for working with students, parents, and colleagues.

Administrators, leaders, and teachers in boys’ schools who want to explore the frameworks, institutional practices, policies, and challenges of creating gender-inclusive schools for boys
Administrators and school leaders gain exclusive access to the Dimensions of Gender video when they register for the gender-inclusive leadership option.

Format
Participate in a scheduled two-hour interactive session based on your role using Zoom. Before attending the Zoom session, watch the Dimensions of Gender video to prepare.
Carla Peña from Gender Spectrum facilitates each session with thought-provoking input and opportunities for facilitated breakout conversations.

- Nonmember rate: US$285
This event is limited to the first 80 people who register.
Refund Policy
IBSC will refund 90% of registration fees if a written request is received two weeks prior to the class. No refunds will be made for cancellations received after this time. Schools seeking to register an alternate to replace a participant unable to attend should contact IBSC@theibsc.org.

Facilitator
Carla Peña
Currently the director of training at Gender Spectrum, Carla Peña is a queer, nonbinary writer, educator, and activist. Committed to equity and social justice, they have focused their life’s work on LGBTQ+ rights, inclusive education, youth work, and community organizing.
Born and raised in Queens, New York (the unceded land of the Matinecock/Munsee Lenape people), Peña is the proud child of a Cuban immigrant father and a Nuyorican mother. They believe it is everyone’s birth right to thrive and they are expressly dedicated to the liberation and prosperity of queer, trans, Black/Indigenous, people of color (QTBIPOC) communities.
