IBSC 20th Annual Conference Archive

The theme of the 2013 IBSC Annual Conference , Brother to Brother: Looking In, Reaching Out, was the launching pad to help focus an exploration of best practices for teaching boys now -- at this particular time in history, in this rapidly changing world we all share. Topics and themes woven through the conference program included: social and emotional learning; character education; mentoring and leadership initiatives; local and global action and service learning; spirituality; and team work and collaboration. Most importantly, we sought to illuminate the importance of teachers, and of positive student-teacher relationships, in helping boys become men of character who will make a positive difference as leaders in this world.

Conference Program

Mastery Workshop and INSPIRE Session Resources

  • Over 23 Mastery Workshops and 34 INSPIRE Sessions (with a total of 86 INSPIRE presentations) were presented at the conference. They explored an extraordinary range of best practices and programs across our global network of boys' schools. In addition to workshops by experienced presenters, a new generation of educators in boys’ schools is poised to helm leadership with the addition of presentations on innovative curriculum and program design.
  • PowerPoints and handouts of many of the Mastery Workshops and INSPIRE Presentations are posted here.
(Workshop handouts and other materials are provided for those workshop presenters who provided them. If you presented at the conference and have not yet submitted your materials, you may do so by emailing them to office@theibsc.org.)

Student Forum

In conjunction with the Annual Conference, the IBSC and St. Christopher's School hosted the first IBSC Student Forum. After digitally engaging for nine-months prior to the program, 33 students from IBSC member schools from around the world met in person for a forum focused on civic responsibility and leadership. Students came from far and wide — from Hong Kong to Sydney to Johannesburg to Richmond— to further build on relationships they made with each other and examine what it means to be a globally engaged citizen.
