Co-sponsored with the Center for Spiritual and Ethical Education (CSEE), this event is for faculty and administrators seeking to be more intentional about how they educate boys. Aimed at educators in both all-boys and coed schools, the event focuses on middle and upper school.

Articulating a Compelling Vision of a Good Man in Our Time: What and Why?
The main purpose of the first day is to articulate visions of what a good man can be in today’s world, focusing on central aspects of a man’s life. The visions are made to avoid the twin foes of education, dogmatism and relativism, being general enough to be meaningful for nearly every man, while being open to the particularities of the lives of individuals. The second goal will be to articulate a robust case for why it is in the life-interest of boys and young men to discipline themselves to grow into such good men.

The second day will focus on sharing best practices for how to teach and support boys and young men in their path toward becoming good men through curricula, co-curriculars, and service learning.

Dr. Martin Stegemoeller earned his undergraduate degree in philosophy from Northwestern University and earned his master's and doctorate degrees from Vanderbilt University in philosophy and literature. He is in his 13thyear at St. Mark’s School of Texas (United States) where he serves as the Malcolm and Minda Brachman Master Teaching Chair, curriculum coordinator of the Leadership and Ethics Program, and faculty sponsor of the Discipline Council, Telos Leadership Society, and Philosophy Club. Stegemoeller teaches courses in English, philosophy, ethics, and history. Additionally, he works as a consultant for CSEE and five schools around the country, helping them build out their character education programs. He is also an adjunct professor at Southern Methodist University in its Graduate School of Liberal Studies.
