IBSC-UK: Building Resilience, SEP '15

IBSC-UK Regional Conference
Building Resilience – the Tigger Effect

Wednesday, 23 September 2015
Harrow School, Harrow on the Hill, England

In addition to head teachers, senior staff and those with particular responsibility for pastoral care would be most welcome at this event and find it of great interest and value.

The conference was led by Dr Tina Rae and supported staff in developing their understanding of Resilience Theory. Dr Rae offered very practical advice and strategies which can be implemented across Key Stages in both school and home contexts. We invite you to review the following documents:

Participants will have the opportunity to further engage with the ideas and key themes presented by Dr Rae via a series of key challenges. Groups will be allocated a series of key questions which will include:

  • How do we create a school ethos and community which fosters resilience?
  • How do we ensure staff resilience in order to enable them to model resilient responses?
  • How do we educate our boys about social networking and the dangers this may pose?
  • What do we do to promote healthy body image in our boys?
  • How do we teach our boys about mental health difficulties and ensure that they do not fall into the trap of stigmatising those who display such problems?
  • How do we teach our boys to manage negative thinking patterns and engage in ‘happy habits’ of positive thinking and reframing?
  • How do we motivate our boys to learn, achieve, take appropriate risks and keep going when the going gets tough?

Following lunch and an opportunity to network with colleagues, Tina Rae will draw together some of the key points that have been shared in order to arrive at a practical and workable model that can enhance our schools’ current provision.
