IBSC Reaching, Teaching, and Succeeding with Boys of Color Conference

Join us for a unique conference focusing on issues of diversity, equity, inclusion, community, mentorship, and teaching. Three IBSC member schools organized this special conference: Gilman School and St. Albans School served as early pioneers in recruiting boys of color and recently established Baltimore Collegiate School for Boys has a student population of 98% boys of color. These distinct schools invite heads of school, administrators, and K-12 teachers for a candid conversation about our challenges and opportunities working with boys of color and ensuring their success academically, socially, and emotionally. For most—if not all—boys of color, walking through the doors of a selective boys’ school should be a life-changing experience. But the journey through our schools is often fraught with feelings of inadequacy and stress caused by subtle and not-so-subtle acts of intolerance, misunderstanding, and even racism. Explore ways to mitigate these anxieties and build stronger connections with these boys, making our school communities healthier and more vibrant.

Professors Randall Kennedy and Joseph Nelson guide the conference with their foundational academic work, deep thinking, and lived practice on how to help boys of color achieve success.
