  • Boys and Digital Literacy (2006-07)

The goal of this action research project was to develop a grade level homepage on the school’s Intranet that would enable 6th grade boys to “take charge” of their life at school. Some findings include that the new 6th Grade Homepage had a positive impact on the boys’ organization skills; student motivation increased with the new homepage; boys located what they needed with less frustration; the project was so successful that the boys requested a similar page for 7th grade next year.

Reflections on research indicate that digital literacy involves more than the ability to use computers, and that the technological abilities and training of the teacher has a noticeable impact on the effectiveness of the technology when used with students.
