The Benefits Of Incorporating A Mindful Minute At Cross Country Practices

During the fall of 2017, the varsity cross country team of 28 boys at Roxbury Latin participated in an exploration of discovering the benefits of incorporating a mindful minute at the beginning of their daily practice. As a teacher in boys’ schools for 23 years, I have seen how stressors negatively impact boys, and I hoped to teach boys a way to reduce their stress and improve sports performance through mindfulness. This action research aimed to evaluate the changes in adaptability of the boys in response to the introduction of a mindfulness technique at cross country practices.
