Relevant Role Models: The Power of Storytelling in Values Education for Grade 9 Boys

From August to October 2018, 20 boys, aged between 13 and 14 years-old from the 9MAK Social Studies class at Lindisfarne College participated in a course based on our school’s six core values and investigating whether story-based learning could improve the boys’ depth of understanding of those core values. By studying the stories of four significant figures in New Zealand history, the boys worked on developing a deeper understanding of the core values in action and then applied this learning to their own individual research on the story of a personal role-model of significance to them.
