Engaging Grade 11 Boys: Giving Voice Through Choice Design Tasks in Physics

In Physics class, my Grade 11 boys are often overwhelmed by the rigorous concepts and math problems. In this action research project, I sought to increase engagement of students by allowing choice in their assessment. Choice design tasks were created by 18 students in Physics class. These design tasks focused on one of three broad choice areas of sports, ballistics, or aircraft.
