Who Should Apply?

Thank you to everyone who applied for the 2025-26 cohort of action researchers. Applications closed November 1. IBSC will contact all individuals who submitted an application with a status update by Friday, December 6, 2024.

• IBSC seeks applications from individual educators in primary, middle, or upper school levels at IBSC member schools who want to conduct action research projects in their schools on the topic selected for this year’s cohort. The program is ideally suited to first-time research projects.
• Individuals must develop projects that focus on a small number of participants (approximately 10-25 boys).
• All accepted action researchers must register, pay for, and attend both the 2025 IBSC Annual Conference at Belmont Hill School in Belmont, Massachusetts, United States, June 22-25, 2025, to receive training in action research and the 2026 IBSC Annual Conference at St. Stithians Boys’ College in Sandton, South Africa. June 29 – July 2, 2026. to present their research. This required attendance proves essential to establish a sense of community using face-to-face communication.
• Applicants should be passionate about the topic, thoughtful, well organized, and prepared to collaborate online using technologies such as Canvas, Zoom, and WhatsApp.
• In addition to time spent undertaking action research in their schools, participants spend 3–4 hours per week on average participating in online discussions with fellow researchers, reading and researching, and preparing submissions for their research report.
